The rules of Vatican law, Canon law, and diocesan law are given to the parents and godparents. Also, the procedures of baptism at St. Michael are explained in the pre-baptismal class.

If you wish to baptize a child who is seven years of age or older, please contact
the Faith Formation Office, 972-279-6581 # 108 or 109
Only Parents can come to the Office to register their child for baptism. A long-form birth certificate of the child they wish to baptize is needed. Parents will need a letter of permission from their parish and turn in all paperwork in order to set a date in Father’s calendar.

Please ensure that all the required paperwork is completed and submitted to Mary Gaines. No baptisms will be scheduled on Father's calendar without documents on file. Email all the documents to: parishoffice@stmichaelgarland.org

NO BAPTISMS DURING THE LENTEN SEASON AND THE MONTH OF DECEMBER

Guidelines for Godparents:
- A Letter of good standing will be needed from both godparents.
- If the Godparents are married, they MUST be married in the Catholic Church and have received all of their Sacraments; Baptism, 1st Communion, and Confirmation.
If the Godparents are single, they must be living a true single life, not be cohabitating with anyone, and have received all of their
Sacraments; Baptism, 1st Communion, and Confirmation.

Documents needed for godparents

All copies of sacraments certificates will be needed to schedule a baptism in Father Joseph’s calendar.
- Confirmation certificates and Marriage from a Catholic church (FOR EACH GODPARENT)
- Letter of good standing (godparents must be registered at their parish)
- Attendance of pre-baptism class BEFORE THE BAPTISM DATE
- 16 years old or older
  
  Parents:
- Copy of child’s birth certificate
- Attendance of a pre-baptism class within 3 years
- Letter of good standing from your parish you are registered or attending Mass.
- Father’s stipend.
  
  Other details will be discussed during the pre-baptismal class.
ALL PAPERWORK MUST BE TURNED IN BEFORE BAPTISM CAN BE SCHEDULED IN THE PRIEST'S CALENDAR.
