The regulations of Vatican law, Canon law, and diocesan law are shared with parents and godparents, along with an explanation of the baptism procedures during the pre-baptismal class.
Pre-registration Details
Attendance at a baptismal class is mandatory, and pre-registration is required.

A pre-baptismal class must be completed prior to scheduling the child's baptism.

English & Spanish pre-baptismal classes are held on the second Thursday of each month at 7 PM.

We are thrilled to celebrate your child's baptism at St. Michael's Church! Here’s what you need to know:
Who can arrange a baptism? What do you need?
Only the child's parents are permitted to arrange the baptism.
Long-form birth certificate of the child to be baptized.
A letter of permission from your current parish (for non-parishioners).
Completion of a pre-baptism class offered by St. Michael's Church or your parish (mandatory before the baptism date). Scheduling:
Ensure that all necessary paperwork is completed and sent to Melania Rodriguez at ext. 103 or MelaniaR@stmichaelgarland.org.
Baptisms cannot be scheduled on the priest's calendar without complete documentation.

Important Note: No baptisms will take place during the Lenten season or in December.
Godparent Qualifications
Must be at least 16 years old.
One or two godparents are needed.
Must be a registered and practicing Catholic (proof required via a letter of good standing).
Must have received all Sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation, and (if married) be married in the Catholic Church. Required Documents for Each Godparent:
Certified copies of their Baptism, Confirmation, and Marriage certificates (if applicable) from a Catholic church.
A letter of good standing from their current parish priest, confirming their active participation. Each godparent must provide this letter.
Completion of a pre-baptism class at St. Michael's Church or at your parish (attendance is mandatory before the baptism date).
If single, godparents must be living a true single life, not cohabitating with anyone, and must have received all Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation.

If the godparents are married, they **MUST** be married in the Catholic Church and have received all Sacraments: Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation (certificate copies required). Please Note:
All documents must be submitted to the church office before a baptism can be scheduled in the priest's calendar.
